Games to resume May 21, Season to end August 20

Next week, we’ll resume our regular schedule (6:45 at Hidden Woods Clubhouse for the South Division managers). Below are next week’s match-ups.

We’ll declare the season over on August 20 which is 13 weeks from now. That’s 1 week for each game, 1 for Memorial day and 2 for make-up games. Then the top play-off eligible team in each division and next 2 playoff-eligible teams (they can be from the same division) will begin their best of 3 game semi-finals series and then best of 5 game finals series. To be playoff-eligible, you must have played all 20 games by August 20.

Last week the Fightin’s defeated the Yankees 6-1 and are gaining ground on the Bullies in the North.

Hammerheads Fall to 3-7

The Hammerheads fell to 3-7 in another closely fought battle really putting the their playoff hopes in serious doubt. This was a pitcher’s duel between the Philadelphia Fightins’ Fernando Valenzuela (2-1) and Jupiter’s Lefty Carlton (1-3) that Valenzuela ended up winning 1-0. Both pitchers were excellent with Valenzuela giving up 0R on 5H with 4K’s in 8IP. Carlton was almost as good, giving up 1R on 4H with 3K’s in 7IP.

While the Hammerheads seemingly couldn’t touch Valenzuela, they did almost get to the Fightins’ closer, Dave Stewart. Mike Schmidt led off the inning with a walk and stole both 2b and 3b. Next, Richie Hebner flied out to left field. Garry Maddox also flied out to left field. This time, the third base coach, Juan Samuel, decided to send him home. Schmidt was called out to end the game. Instant replay however, shows he was clearly safe. In fact, it wasn’t even close.

Here are the latest standings. Yes…the Hammerheads continue to get their asses handed to them every time they take the field.

After week 10, we’ll take a little “All-Star” break to let every one catch up with their games. Let me know if anyone needs help scheduling / subbing for their games.

Games to be Played

The following games still need to be played for everyone to be caught up to 8 weeks. If possible, I would like to see everyone get caught up by the end of inter-division play (week 10). I know we have some of these make up games already scheduled and others will be soon, so I’m not too worried about it. I just wanted to make sure we all knew where we were.
